Zidane had made the trip in hopes of seeing Lionel Messi in action during the US Open Cup Final, but unfortunately, Messi was sidelined due to injury. Despite the disappointment, Zidane and Beckham caught up before watching Inter Miami suffer a 2-1 defeat to Houston Dynamo. It was a bittersweet evening for Zidane, missing out on seeing Messi play but enjoying the company of his former teammate Beckham.
However, the evening turned out to be quite unforgettable for ‘Zizou’, and the Frenchman seemed pleased to have met up with Beckham, who is a co-owner of the club, at DRV PNK Stadium. Miami manager Martino explained to ESPN why Messi did not play that night, stating that it would not have been wise for him to take the field, even for a short period. The risk was too great. However, Martino assured fans that Messi will make a return before the season ends, with his availability being assessed on a game-by-game basis in accordance with the medical team’s advice.
The star player from Vice City had been absent from three of the team’s last four MLS games due to muscle fatigue from international duty.
